About psoriasis
In simple words, psoriasis is a skin disease in which skin cells buildup rapidly. This rapid buildup causes itchy and red elevated skin plaques. The areas that psoriasis usually affects are the scalp, knees and elbows. But it can happen almost in any part of the body.
Psoriasis is said to be not contagious. Contact with someone else’s skin will not affect the other person. But even then hygiene and care must be maintained.

Causes of psoriasis
It is said that psoriasis may happen due to a subset of T lymphocytes (white blood cells) when it begins to function abnormally. It may cause skin inflammation. These T-cells cause inflammatory cells, which consequently causes scaling plaque.
One of the causes of psoriasis could be heredity. It could be inherited on the basis of genes. Some people have those kinds of genes which are more prone to develop psoriasis. There are other causes too such as sunburns, pollution, bad habits like consuming alcohol and smoking.
Injury to some part of the skin may also trigger it. Other reasons may involve inflammation of the skin, excessive scratching and skin infection. Some medicines may also cause temporary itching or inflammation of the skin.
Types of psoriasis
The five types of psoriasis are listed below:
Plaque psoriasis
Guttate psoriasis
Pustular psoriasis
Inverse psoriasis
Erythrodermic psoriasis
