Psoriasis Treatment in Ayurveda & Panchkarma – by Dr.Chanchal Sharma

Psoriasis is a chronic, non infectious, inflammatory skin disease. In Ayurveda, all skin disease is categorized under kushtha roga. The clinical features of psoriasis can be co-related with kitibha kushtha. The article is about my ayurvedic and panchakarma treatment for psoriasis.

In my ten years of experience I have encountered several cases of psoriasis that was healed by combination of herbal medicines and panchakarma therapy. I shall discuss here the case of a 29 years old man with chief complain of red patches on all over the body with itching and scaly skin. He was suffering from psoriasis for past 3 years. Underwent many allopathy treatment but didn’t get any relief. He then visited Aasha Ayurveda in my OPD for better management through the ayuvedic approach.

According to ayurveda psoriasis is caused due to vitiated vata and kapha dosha. Accordingly the choice of drugs is made. Following drugs were used for treatment of psoriasis- manjishtha, daruharidra, arogyavardhani vati, trikatu, hingwashtak choorna and maha gandhak rasayana.

PSORIASIS TREATMENT IN AYURVEDA

Ayurvedic medicines combined with panchakarma therapy speeds the recovery. Following therapy was administered on the patient and we treated psoriasis without any side effects.
Snehana with medicated oil is helpful in decreasing the dryness and scaling.
Swedana therapy opens the pores in the skin and eliminates the toxins through the skin.
Basti karma (medicated enema) with medicated liquid balances the vata dosha.
Virechana is important for the process of shodhan. The therapy is mainly used for expelling out the pitta dosha but is also administered for suppressing Vata and kapha dosha.
Raktamokshan or siravedhana is done to remove the impurblood. This therapy is done for rakta shodhana.
With herbal medicines, panchakarma therapy, diet and lifestyle modification the patient recovered smoothly from psoriasis. The scaly skin and red patched all over the body disappeared.
Thus we see that the ayurvedic of psoriasis is limited in modern science but is managed very well through the ancient system of medicine ‘Ayurveda

Ayurveda Panchakarma Treatment For Total Health Problems

Today the western world is also following Ayurveda because of its holistic approach towards lifestyle. Panchakarma being an integral part of Ayurveda symbolizes 5 procedures for cleansing the body internally

Panchakarma therapy is used as a preventive measure by healthy people and as a cure by those suffering from disease. Ayurveda compares the diseased body with a soiled cloth that need to be dyed. The cloth must be cleaned before giving it any color, in the same way the body must be clean of any toxins before starting any medication
In ayurveda, health is defined as a body free from toxins, normal functioning of organs and a mind free from any kind of stress. The toxicity in the body deteriorates the functioning of body-mind complex that leads to diseases to develop. This damages the individual’s health and wellness. It is advised to visit authentic panchakarma centre. Aasha Ayurveda panchakarma centre in Delhi is recommended for the best ayurvedic centre
As per ayurveda the body is composed of 5 basic elements ether, air, fire, water and earth. Through the therapies such as steam therapy, oil massage, herbal paste therapy, nasal therapy, vamana, virechana, medicated enema and purgation, panchakarma eliminates the wastes from the body and enhances the functioning of circulatory, digestive and nervous systems. After the completion of panchakarma ayurvedic treatment the body is again back to normal, functioning without any hindrance.
Panchakarma is an important part of ayurveda that is highly individualised. It is an ancient cleansing method, used as a therapeutic treatment that eliminates toxins and aggravated doshas. According to ancient ayurvedic text, panchakarma therapy is used both as preventive and curative measure. Panchakarma treatment has cured chronic diseases such as arthritis, back pain, allergies, migraines etc where conventional system of medicine has failed. It enhances the function of the sense organs and improves the quality of life.

Panchakarma: An important part of Ayurveda

The meaning of Ayurveda is “the knowledge of life” and panchakarma is an important part of Ayurveda. Acharya Charaka defines Ayurveda as –

            “हिताहितं सुखं दुःखं आयुस्तस्य हिताहितं | मानं च तच्च यत्रोक्तं आयुर्वेदः स उच्यते | |”

Panchakarma is an important part of Ayurveda. It is the most traditional form of detoxifying the body that has been in use for thousands of years for curing the disorder and maintaining the health of a person. Panchakarma treatment is the most critical tool in Ayurveda, used for eliminating the toxicity and enhances the immunity of a person. According to the panchakarma doctors, the therapy is proved to have a significant effect in chronic diseases.
According to Ayurveda, the cause of all the diseases is ama. Due to inadequate digestion, the byproduct formed is called ama. This byproduct blocks the channels due to which diseases occur. Ayurvedic Panchakarma treatment helps is removing this ama and hence eliminates the toxicity and opens the channels in the body.
The Aasha ayurvedic panchakarma treatment centre in Delhi helps people to avoid the further accumulation of ama by performing the Purva karma (snehana, swedana) followed by panchakarma treatment.

Snehana and swedana are the purvakarmas of panchakarma. Medicated oil, ghee, fats are used in ayurveda to make the body soft and hydrated. The blocked channels become soft and vitiated doshas are loosened. The process by which the body sweats is called swedana. There are different types of methods of snehana and swedana practiced in panchakarma centres.
The process of panchakarma constitutes five basic steps i.e Vamana, virechan, basti, nasya, raktamokshan.
Vamana (emesis therapy)- it helps by expelling the excess kapha dosha that causes accumulation of mucous in cold, couch etc. it is indicated in diabetes, lymphatic congestion, indigestion etc.
Virechana (purgation therapy)- excessive pitta results in acne, rashes, skin inflammation, jaundice etc. The pitta dosha can be correlated with bile, which secrets and accumulates in gall bladder, liver and small intestine. Virechana is thus beneficial in balancing the pitta dosha by removing the excess of it.
Basti (enema therapy)- vata dosha is the causative factor of all the diseases and associated pain. Basti is the treatment of choice for vitiated vata related disorders.
Nasya (nasal administration)– it is indicated in sinus, migraine, eye and ear problem etc.
Raktamokshan (purification of blood)- it is indicated in skin disorders such as scabies, psoriasis, urticaria etc. The therapy is effective in enlarged liver, spleen and gout.
There are certain contradictions in the ayurvedic panchakarma treatment. Thus, before searching in the internet “panchakarma centre near me” it is suggested to go for the best as it’s the matter of your body than going for the one which is accessible, no matter how the centre is.
North India, has one of the best panchakarma centre in Delhi named Aasha ayurveda which is trusted for its efficient herbal medication administered by experienced ayurvedic doctor.

Tips to Naturally Regrow Your Hair

Kalitya is a word for hair loss in Ayurveda. It is common in both men and women and we all come across this problem. Poor nutrition, age factor, air pollution, chemicals, stress, and hereditary are common causes of hair fall. There are plenty of synthetic products in the market that promises to stop the hair fall. Unfortunately, such products do more harm than good. Ayurveda treatment for hair loss and regrowth has been effective for ages.

In ayurveda, excess of pitta dosha is the causative factor for hair loss. Pacifying the pitta dosha helps in controlling the hair fall. Before going through the ayurvedic hair treatment or measures for natural hair growth we must avoid certain thing in our daily routine. Consuming tea and coffee, oily, acidic and refined food, Intake of salty, spicy and sour food, smoking and alcohol, washing hair with hot or too cold water, combing wet hair leads to more hair loss.
Ayurvedic hair treatment focuses on diagnosing the root cause of the disease. In the case of hair loss vitiated pitta dosha is the causing factor of hair fall. The hair doctor deals with it by initially analyzing the Prakriti and vikriti of the patient. The doctors in ayurvedic hair clinic firstly advise the patient to change the lifestyle and dietary habits to balance the vitiated pitta dosha. Therapies such as abhyanga, nasya, Shirodhara are significantly effective in hair treatment which must be performed only by the certified therapist under the supervision of an ayurvedic doctor. Such techniques improve blood circulation, detoxifies the whole body, relieves stress and anxiety.
Herbal formulations in the form of medicated oil, hair pack, herbal drugs and massages are the effective formulation for natural hair growth.

Dr. Chanchal Sharma the leading ayurvedic doctor for hair in Delhi, suggests certain other measures for controlling hair loss and promoting the regrowth. Intake of fresh organic fruits, leafy vegetables, soaked almonds, consuming sesame seeds in the form of powder, waking up early, yoga, Pranayam and use of herbal shampoos will definitely help in controlling the hair fall.
Air pollution and chemicals in water has a significant effect in hair loss. The studies have proved that due to poor air quality there is an increase in hair fall cases in men and women as the pollutants reduce the proteins that are responsible for hair growth. Delhi is the leading city in poor air quality. Hence it becomes more important to see a hair doctor at least once or twice a year. There are many ayurvedic hair clinic that promises natural hair growth. There are cases where chemicals are used in the name of herbal formulation, that do more harm than good.
One of the centre in Delhi that uses pure herbal products is Aasha ayurveda. The herbal products are effective and has no side effects. The above-mentioned therapy for natural hair growth can be availed at Aasha ayurveda.
